Farming Jute :

Jute is a natural plant that has grown for millennia in the mouth of the Ganges as this river flows from the Himalayas mountains to the Bay of Bengal.

Farmers have worked in small family owned plots, using traditional farming methods passed on through the generations.

Seeds are sown early March and the crop harvested five or six months later. Bundles of the plants are soaked in running water to allow the bark to be stripped.

Raw jute fibers are extracted from the stalk and washed in clean running water to remove dirt. These fibers are then spread out to dry in the sun for a few days.

Dried jute fibers are bundled by hand, ready for their trip to the local market where our manufacturer will buy this natural resource.
